Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Ohio

How is this right?

Dower rights in Ohio were designed to protect a spouse only upon the death of the other, right? How is it that if you own a home free and clear, and only your name is on the deed, your spouse is given ultimate control? What i mean by that is, he he doesn't agree to sign off on it, you are stuck! Why can't I put my sisters name on it, or even give or sell it to her, even if my husband does not want to sign? We don't live in it(we don't even live together) and I can't afford it by myself. I don't understand why I don't have the ultimate control. Is there anything I can do besides watch the house deteriorate?

Without a release of dower from your spouse, you cannot convey clear title to anyone. Dower terminates at death, and is converted to the statutory rights of a surviving spouse.
