Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Ohio

Sale of Property - New Landlord Wanting New Lease

I moved into this property on August 1. In September, the landlord sold the property. I have read that my lease with the first landlord is valid and I do not need a new lease. Is this true? My ''new'' landlord is pushing me to sign a new lease. What are my rights? Can I make the lease have the same start and end dates, etc?

Re: Sale of Property - New Landlord Wanting New Lease

It depends on the terms of the written lease (assuming it is a written lease and not a month-to-month lease) with respect to assignment of the lease. If the lease was silent as to assignment of the lease, the lease runs with the land. Thus, you cannot be compelled to execute a new lease with the new owner of the property.
