Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Ohio

Tenant's Abandoned Property

I rent out rooms in my house and one of my roommates is in jail. How long do I have to store his stuff in my attic before I can throw it out? The renter gave notice that he would be moving out Dec 3rd but then did not, and did not pay rent. On the 19th he was taken to jail. He has made no arrangements to have anyone pick up his things and I have taken his stuff to the attic so I could rent the room to someone else.

Re: Tenant's Abandoned Property

YOU NEED TO BEGIN EVICTION PROCEDINGS AGAINST HIM IN COURT TO BE MOST SAFE.

I WOULD SUGGEST IF STORING HIS THINGS IS NOT TOO BURDENSOME, THEN DO SO. IF IT IS BURDENSOME, THEN YOU'LL NEED TO EVICT HIM LEGALLY. ONCE YOU DO SO, YOU CAN PUT HIS STUFF ON THE LAWN.

CALL ME DIRECTLY IF YOU WISH.
