why don't you just bring someone along with you while you discuss the money he owes you. In that way you have a witness who can attest that the said person owes you some amount. Another thing to establish it is to send him a demand letter wherein you require him to pay you within five (5) days from receipt of the letter otherwise you will initate judicial action. The letter is also the best evidence to prove the monetary obligation.
