Legal Question in Traffic Law in Ohio

Do I need a lawyer?

Police woke me at 2:40am, my truck was found wrecked on a rural road. They refuse to release my truck unless my son who had the truck that day comes in person between 10pm-6am. I asked why they said someone had to pay for damage to the cornfield. I said I am owner of the truck and will pay the damages. The deputy got angry, said I wasn't getting the truck back until I did what they wanted and hung up on me. I don't know where to go from here. Do I need a lawyer?

If I were you, I would get a lawyer. The deputy has no right to hold your truck hostage. A lawyer should be able to explain that to him in a way that he not only understands but in a way that keeps anybody from getting into too much trouble. I practice in your area so if you'd like to email me back with your phone number, I could give you a call later today or tomorrow so that we could discuss the matter further.

You definitely need to be careful since he may accuse you of obstructing official business....the truck can in fact be held as evidence of this crime that they are investigating.....they can mess with you if they want for now but you can make a motion to the court on monday to have it released...feel free to call me directly if you have more questions....216.952.1990
