Re: title transfer from a deceased person

You will need to open a probate estate to transfer the home into your name. It can take up to 6 months to do so, but can be much shorter depending on the situation. You have already taken steps to notify the company with the equity loan so you need to speak with them about a possible assumption of the loan. It would also be helpful to know if there are any other assets or other heirs/siblings?

You need to open an estate to get the probate court to authorize a transfer of the home to you. It should only take a few months.
