Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Oklahoma
I work in city government in our border town of about 3000. Across the state line is a growing city of 85000. Our town has become filled with multiple quick-loan businesses taking precious building space that do not provide any type of tax income to the city, and as a result, has reduced our sales taxes to a minimum. Would our town be subject to a suit if an ordinance was passed to disallow additional loan companies to move in, and is there any other method to get the others to leave legally?

Unfortunately this is an economic issue and the only to combat this problem is to encourage business ownerships in your town,get involved with Chamber of Commerce and compile or draft socio-economic plan to present to your City officials. In other words, you must compete with them. Quick loan, pawn shops and check cashers profit from the desperation of others and they may have located there because the adjacent town would not tolerate them. They primarily seek to profit from the desperation of others. To change this, you must have a comprehensive or alternative plan. One designed to help circulate money and taxes in your town.
