Legal Question in Personal Injury in Oklahoma

defending ourselves?

when our daughter was 17,she was stalked & harrassed by a grown man, he accused her of speeding in his neighborhood. We called the local police several times, they did nothing. One night the man ran her off the road with his truck, cussed, screamed, & wouldn't let her leave the neighborhood (he was blocking her car)she called me(her Mother)scared, crying, hysterical, we drove to her, to get her,(I called police on our way)my husband jumped out of our car,ran to our daughter & pushed this man down to the ground. He is now suing us for over $10k for damage. My husband was charged with misdeamor assault & battery, had probation for 6 mts, paid over $2000,was booked in jail, etc. We got an attorney we paid $500,he said he would represent us for the damages this man is now suing us for,we paid him $500 then he backed out for fear he wouldn't make any $ out of this.We tried another attorney,he is tired of lawsuits & retiring. It is now to late to get another attorney,we have a scheduled conference in a week. What do we do? Can we defend ouselves?
