Legal Question in Criminal Law in Oregon

Teenage Love

My son is 18 and lives in Washington. His girlfriend is 17 and lives in Oregon and turns 18 in September. What, if any, trouble can my son get into if she spends the night without her parents permission?

Thank you.

Re: Teenage Love

An intersting question indeed. The age of consent in Washington is 16; however, I do not know what it is in Oregon. Even if it is the same, the possible problems with your son's situation are that he could be violating federal law, i.e., the Mann Act, which forbids transporting women across state lines for "immoral purposes". This was enacted to prevent prostitutes from being transported from state to state and to prevent women from being transported from their home state into a life of prostitution. If she comes to Washington on her own accord and volition, i.e., she drives herself, there probably would be no problems except for the issue of her parent(s). What do they say about this situation? Do they know about it? Do they disapprove of this relationship in the first place? How would they react if they found out about this situation of "secret" teenage love? These are too many variables to give you any sort of definitive answer. Good Luck on this one!
