Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Oregon

Dumped me, then dumped my case.

I began a romantic relationship with my divorce lawyer that lasted 18 months. My divorce has barely advanced, he ended the realationship to begin dating junior lawyer in his office and has informed me he will no longer represent me. What recourse do I have? He said he would handle the case for filing fees. Does he have any obligation to continue to represent me? Does he have any obligation to find me other counsel that will represent me under the same financial agreement? (and I know I'm dumb for letting this happen) Thank you for your time.

Re: Dumped me, then dumped my case.

You cannot enfore an illegal agreement of sex for legal services [or for money].

But that does not excuse his conduct, which is reprehensible. In NY, he would be subject to discipline.

It is possible you may have a cause of action against him for damages, etc.

Suggest you consult with an experienced matrimonial attorney in your state.

Hope this helps.
