At the end of the probate of a will, the personal representative files a final accounting, which indicates what was paid for the decedent and how the remaining money will be distributed. After the court reviews that accounting, it signs an order allowing the distribution of the estate. At that time, the PR sends the money to the heirs and files receipts from the heirs showing that they received their money (or other assets) from the estate.
