child benefits

I recieved a notice of award for child benefits from social security beginning august 2003. Then thay go on to say thay are withholding my social security benefits for jan 1997 though june 2004. saying thay may have to reduce these benefits if i receive SSI. WHAT DOSE THIS MEAN.

Re: child benefits

SSI is Supplemental Security Income. It is different than Social Security Disability. Social Security may award SSI benefits first if you qualified for retroactive SSI and then repay public assistance from those benefits for any public assistance that was received during the period of eligibility for SSI.
