Gave 2 weeks notice and was not given pay

I work for a sales company and today gave them my letter of resignation with the required 2 weeks notice. My boss called to tell me that he was letting me go immediately and that I would not be paid for the 2 weeks notice that I had given. I realize that in the sales industry when you go from one company to a competitor that they will most likely let you go immediately but I gave the correct notice. Shouldn't I be given the 2 weeks worth of pay since I did what was required and was more than willing to work out the full 2 weeks? I had worked for a similar company prior and was given the pay even though I had to leave immediately becuase of going to work for a competitor. I was not let go early because of any wrong doings on my end and have been a good and faithful employee for the 5 years I have been with the company.

You asked about getting paid for two weeks notice.

There are various laws regarding wage and hours. Generally an employer must pay an employee for a notice period up to two weeks, even if the employer terminates the employee immediately.

You should speak with an attorney about the specific facts of your circumstance and whether you are entitled to pay for the notice period.

No, they don't have to let you work the two weeks at all. The real question is, were you paid overtime? How did overtime work there. We have been recovering for our clients from large companies for failing to pay their sales associates overtime. Let me know via telephone or e-mail.
