Legal Question in Business Law in Pennsylvania

Small Business from Home

Dear Sir/Madam,

Currently in the process of setting up a small business to be ran out of my home. Will be selling candles and soaps. (Not retail) Will sell wholesale to small shops or other individuals, to sell if they wish. My work hours have been reduced to 32 per week. Just trying to earn some extra $ to offset loss.

What should I be concerned about?

I understand there is a paper that needs to be filled out for the bank with the D.B.A. information. (How do I obtain one?) What about insurance? Should I set this it up as a S corp. or something else?

Thank you for your time.

Re: Small Business from Home

You should discuss the issue with an attorney to determine what is the best entitity for you to conduct the business. there are many possible issues involved and taking the time to speak with an attorney would definiely be to your advantage. Are you able to conduct a business out of your home? There may be zoning requirements which prevent it. Also there are licenses you may need to apply for and other tax filings. A good accountant would also be a good person to consult.
