Use of Metal Detectors

What are the legalities concerning the use of hand-held metal detectors for a private company? We're concerned about employees (in a union environment) being brought in for termination and are wondering if we could scan them for metal obejcts before being brought in for a meeting.

What does your contract with the Union say? I would look there first. I do not know of any law that would prohibit you from doing this. My concern is that once you under take this have you imposed a duty on yourself to protect your workers in other situations. That is something that an attorney would want to research to provide you a better answer.
