Legal Question in Consumer Law in Pennsylvania

Contract cancellation fee

I cancelled a contract with a collection agency who was ''helping'' me (NOT!) collect a bad debt. They came to me unsolicited (I guess they got my name through court records; we've tried many avenues to collect this debt). They turned out to be way off-base---ignored my tip on where the debtor was living---and did nothing to collect the money except turn it over to an atty in a state where we KNEW the debtor did not live. This atty then wanted a fee to proceed. After several letters from him, I canceled the contract. The coll. agency is now sending me bills and harrassing me by phone to pay a cancellation fee. Do I have to pay this? My husband says ''Ignore them,'' but the phone calls and bills are really unnerving me. I have never not paid a bill IN MY LIFE. They are located in Vermont. I live in PA.

Re: Contract cancellation fee

You asked about a debt collector harassing you about a debt for collecting debt.

This is almost funny. Now you know what it's like on the other end of the debt collection stick.

You should look at the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act for relief.

Roger
