Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

I recently attempted to refinance my home to a lower interest rate. Our efforts quickly stopped when we were told there was a judgement placed against our property! We had absolutely no idea what this could be about and after a TON of phone calls and headaches we have confirmed with the debt collector that administered the judgement it was an error and a case of mistaken identity. Now in order to get it removed they gave me the name and phone number of a law firm that administered the judgement on their behalf. The lawfirm wants me to send a copy of a drivers license and social security card to confirm that it is not our debt. I am extremely hesitant to do this. This law firm already attached our property with a judgement with no basis for doing so but they are refusing to remove it without me sending them this information.

My question is 1. Should I trust them with this information and trust that they will not attach it to this outstanding debt that belongs to someone other than my wife and I? and 2. Is there any grounds to sue the debt collection company for administering a judgement against our house for no reason. This has prevented us from refinancing and has caused great stress and aggrivation. And we still have not gotten it successfully removed yet. How can they place a judgement against a completely innocent party legally? We didn't get any mail, phone calls, or notification of any kind until we were embarassed at the credit union.
