Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania

under age drinking associated with getting drivers licence

my 18 year old son was picked up while standing on a corner drinking a beer. he was charged with under age drinking and was told that he must pay a fine.

a friend told me that there is a new law now that with this charge he will not be able to obtain his drivers license for up to 3 years because of this offense. is this true?

If he pleads guilty and just pays the fine, his driving priveledges will be suspended. He needs to get a lawyer so he can plead to a non drinking offense and avoid the license woes.

Re: under age drinking associated with getting drivers licence

Dear Sir or Madam:

The following is based on your facts and PA law.

PA will suspend an individuals driving license if they are found guilty of underage drinking. The period of suspension will vary depending on the charge. Even if the individual does not have a license the suspension wil be enforced when they do obtain a license.

Representation in this matter is encouraged to attempt a plea to a reduced charge.

I practice in Pittsburgh, PA. Let me know if you would like to discuss the matter further.
