Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania

Was convicted of a DUI (my first) and simple assault (my first) 3.5 years ago. Served my time (48 hours), paid my fines, lost my license for a year, wasn't put on probation, went through out patient re-hab, am in A.A.. During the arrest, two hunting guns were confesgated by the police and they have refused to return them. They've told me I have to have a hearing before a judge to get them back. My hearing is in two weeks. Am representing myself. My question is: Is a DUI and a simple assualt serious enough crimes for a judge to tell me I can't get the guns back? In the time since my arrest, I have purchased several guns and each time have passed a national instant background check. I live in Bucks County, PA and the hearing is being held there.
