Probation

Do probation officers and police enter your home, while you are not there? The door was left unlocked by accedent and they admitted to coming in the door. Can they do this?

Police generally need a warrant to enter your home. There are certain exceptions to this rule. Probation and parole officers, on the other hand, do not even need probable cause. Whether the search was lawful depends on the detailed facts of what happened. Also, the only time that the lawfulness of police entry into a home is at issue is when the police discover evidence inside they intend to use against you. If the police did not find anything incriminating in your house, there is no evidence to suppress.
