Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Child sharing bedroom with parent?

We own a 2 bedroom mobile home. My mother is coming to live with us for a period of time ( 6 month -1yr). We have moved our daughter out of her bedroom to give it to my mother. Our daughter now has a toddler bed in our walk in closet that we emptied for her. Is there a law in having her stay in there which is in our bedroom? She is 3. Wondering if there are laws on child sharing a bedroom with parent in the state of Pa.

Re: Child sharing bedroom with parent?

You asked about sharing a room with your child.

There is no specific law against what you propose. But the potential problems are great. First is that a closest is not a proper bedroom and is not an approved use under any housing code, but you know that. Any room used for sleeping must have two means of egress.

The situation could easily lead to charges of neglect, child endangerment, and even abuse. While I understand the necessity for the arrangement, the problems are great. You should do all you can to prevent this situation. Even moreso because the size of a mobile home is small to begin with. It will do no one any good to have such a crowded situation (and I'm willing to bet your spouse agrees).

Roger
