Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

$4K Promisary note from 1984

How can I collect on this promisary note? A man borrowed money from my father and never paid him back any part of the loan. Dad made me promise I would pursue this after he died. He just died last month

Re: $4K Promisary note from 1984

You made a promise to your dad the law will not allow you to fulfill.

A debt not sued upon within 10 years is barred by the statute of limitations. There is nothing legally you can do to collect this debt. Since the debt was incurred in 1984, it became barred by the statute of limitations in 1994. It is now 24 years old; no court will enforce it.

In addition, to collect on the debt, you would need to be appointed the personal representative of your father's estate.
