Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

I filed a complaint in the court of common pleas but can't figure out how to get it served... sheriff says talk to the prothonotary but the prothonotary tells me that they don't do anything with the sheriff. Am I supposed to get something signed or stamped by the prothonotary and give it to the sheriff to serve?

You could go read the rules of civil procedure. The bottom line is you have to show it got there. Certified Mail Return receipt requested is one way but what if they don't sign for the letter? Then you didn't serve them. You can have someone other than you go and hand it to them. Now if you want a sheriff's deputy to serve it. You need a time stamped copy of the complaint, an address the complaint is to be served and the fee for the service and visit sheriff's office and ask them to do it.
