Legal Question in Personal Injury in Pennsylvania

Responsibility for Medical Bills

Am I responsible for paying back the insurance company for medical bills after I receive a settlement? Settlement is from a bar for serving excess alcohol which caused me to have a car accident (one car only - no auto insurance). I'm being told because no claims are being made by the hospitals/doctors, I don't have to pay back the medical costs.

Re: Responsibility for Medical Bills

Whether or not you have to pay the insurance company back depends on who the insurance company insured, and what type od insurance comapany it was. If your doctors were paid by an insurance company, then they would not be making a claim against you. If your bills were paid by a motor vehicle insurance co., you probably don't have to pay them back--If they were paid by a private medical ins. co. you might. I simply need more information to answer your question. I suggest if they are making a claim against you, you discuss tis with yor lawyer.
