Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania

home buying

is there anything i can do when we had agreed on price and my wife and i had finished our side of the paperwork. then the seller back out of the sale because of finding out about my past legal trouble (nonviolent sex offender, not sexual predator) and they have not yet sold this property and are now asking $45000 less then the price we had agreed on

Re: home buying

You asked about the sale of a home.

If the seller had accepted your offer, and that acceptance had incurred any form of "writing", then you would have a claim in equity to force the sale of the home on the agreed terms.

But because the property is now selling for less than your negotiated price you should consider getting a "straw man" to purcahse the home for you. Using a straw man would solve the problem much more expediently than filing suit. And it would probably not be fraudulent so long as it was done properly.

It generally isn't illegal to discriminate against someone because of their criminal history. The seller is probably trying to protect his neighbors, or even expressing their own personal feelings regarding sex crimes.

Depending on the particulars of the crime you may wish to bring them to the attention of the seller and discuss them.

Good luck.

Regards,

Roger
