Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Pennsylvania

Our mom has no assett's but lots of bill's

Our mother passed away last week and we have not been able to find any--name removed-- She did not have any property, vehicles or money in a banking account when she had passed away. The only thing that she had was a life insurance pollicy with me and my sister named as beneficiaries and also a pension she was going to get at age 59 from her ex-husband which also named us as beneficiaries. She--name removed--have about 25,000 in bills and we were wanting some guidance on our responsibilities to the creditors if any?

Re: Our mom has no assett's but lots of bill's

First of all, I am sorry to hear about your loss. There is good news about her bills. First know that you are not responsible for her bills. You are also not resposible to pay her debts from the life insurance proceeds that you received. If what you are telling me is that your mother had no assets in her name alone at the time of her death, tell the unsecured debtors, that there are no assets in her estate, no estate will be opened and no personal representative will be appointed.

If you have additional questions, or need further explanation, please do not hesitate to contact me. 412.963.8595 or [email protected].

I give free consultations, and would be willing to answer any questions you have regarding your mother's death. Once again, I am sorry for your loss.
