Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Pennsylvania

requirements for advertising estate porbate

My father died recently leaving everything to my mother. He had very little property in his own name.

Is it mandatory to advertise the probate of his estate

in the newspaper?

Re: requirements for advertising estate porbate

It is not mandatory. The purpose of advertising is to give notice to any creditors of the estate. If notice is given and they don't present a claim, when the estate is audited their rights are cut off. If you are certain there are no potential creditors, it is usually safe to skip the advertising. However, if you plan a formal Court audit, you must advertise.
