Legal Question in International Law in Puerto Rico

Re: Power of Attorney

My dad is selling his home here in Puerto Rico where I also live and we have drawn up a power of attorney giving me the authorization to transact the deal in his behalf as he is 84 and wishes to return to the USA. My sister and brother have also mailed a power of attorney as well for me to settle my deceased mother's portion of the sale. Today when I saw an attorney with the power of attorneys' he told me that they cannot be used here in Puerto Rico...my siblings live in New York. My question is 1) Is this attorney giving me factual information and 2) If he is correct, why is it not accepted here since Puerto Rico is a possession of the USA? I would really appreciate your response to this question. . . Thank you

Re: Re: Power of Attorney

This advice that you received strikes me as wrong, but let me suggest that you contact a friend and colleague down in PR:

Felix Montanez, [email protected]

787-776-3079

He does primarily banking law and I'm sure that he is conversant with issues relating to legalization of documents.

Best wishes,
