Legal Question in Personal Injury in Rhode Island

dog bite staue of limitations

Dec 1998 I was bitten by a dog while walking. I filed a complaint with the police. The owners agreed to keep the dog tied. It recently attacked me while walking again. It did not bite me but forced me out to the road and on coming traffic causing much distress to me and the peole driving. I filed a comlaint. The police and dog office have not removed the dog. What recourse do I have? Can I sue for a dog bite from a year and a half ago? thank You M.R.

Re: dog bite staue of limitations

The time within which you have to file suit against another party is called the statute of limitations. In the State of RI the statute of limitations for an injury such as a dog bite is three years. Therefore you have up until December ? 2000 to file suit.

Depending on the extent of your injuries you may wish to file suit for the first dogbite. There does not appear to be any damages from the second attack.
