Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in South Africa

my father bought a car about a year ago by someone who had a debt to pay so he said...we do not have the paperwork of the car and a view months pass an we went back to get the papers because he said he first have to pay the bank,but he lied and told us after that,that the car was his previous bosses car and that he has the paperwork but did not know he sold the car the car to us and know we have a big situation on our hands the real owners called us to say that they are going to a lawyer to take come an take the car.We have proof of a written agreement that we paid for the car an went to the police station last year an given a statement about the situation so whatis our position in this case.

The person who sold you the car, has in effect sold a stolen car to you.

You will have to return the car to the rightful owner.

But, be sure that they are the rightful owners. If they start proceedings against you, make sure the person who sold you the car is involved too. That way you may recover your money.

Best go to a lawyer quickly.
