Legal Question in Bankruptcy in South Carolina

Representing myself

I am filing for bankruptcy and I don't have the money to pay an lawyer to represent me. Is it too much work to represent myself? If not, how do I go about it?

Re: Representing myself

Preparing and filing a bankruptcy petition can be very difficult. Even thuogh you are not a lawyer, in any legal proceeding in which you choose to represent yourself you are expected to know the applicable law the same as any attorney representing you.

Most Bar associations in each state have a system for the referral of cases to lawyers who volunteer thier services, pro bono (free) to client's who have no funds to hire an attorney. Try contacting your local Bar association to inquire about your eligibility.
