Legal Question in Constitutional Law in South Carolina

Age 17

I have a 17 year old daughter. She keeps running away. The local police say she is not a run away, she moved out. That I have no legal right to force her home.I think the Constitution gives a parent the right to raise and control their children by their valves without govermental interference till they are 18. When it comes to care, custody and control. Whom is correct? Me or the local police. What legal steps do I take to protect my rights?

I want to get a group of parents and fight for our rights. We parents of 17 year olds need help,We just do not know where to start.

Re: Age 17

You should reclassify your question as a family law issue. From your statement, it is improbable that the state has taken any action that is actionable on a constitutional sense. In order to force your daughter home, the police would need a statute that authorized them to do so. Although their representationt is less than accurate, the bottom line to their message seems to be that they are unable to take any action. I suggest that you look into lobbying and action groups in your state or community that call for these more empowering laws for authorities to help parents with their children.

On a constitutional level, it is unlikely that you have an actionable claim nonetheless.
