Legal Question in Consumer Law in South Carolina

I unknowingly bought a boat that was blown up.(lemon)

I purchased a powerboat from an individual for $17,500

in ''as is'' shape, I was told ''in perfect running

condition'' all new motor, nothing wthe guy tells

merong with this boat, its as good as they get.this is

what the seller said. Well the next day i take the

boat out and within 5 min. the boat overheats, caused

by the damage he had done to the boat before i picked

it up, I aslo spoke with the engine builder of the

boat and was told that the boat has some internal

damage to the boat before I bought it and the seller

knew this information and lied to me. None of the

paperwork has been done on the boat, but i have paid

him all the money , but i have not picked up the paper

work or signed any papers yet,I do have a written

reciept for the money I paid him. Can I get my money

back or am I screwwed? Thank

Normally, if you purchase something "as is" you take the product with the faults, but if you feel that you were fraudulently induced into entering the sale by misrepresentations (what is commonly referred to as fraud) by the seller, then you may have a cause of action against the seller for fraud. You may sue to rescind the sale or sue for damages. I would suggest you contact an attorney in your area to pursue your remedies as soon as possible.
