Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

child support

My boyfriend was placed in jail for back child support. He turned himself in in order to get things straightened out. He is serving 3 months. He has been told if he doesnt pay the full amount of back childsupport the family court will turn right around and place him back in jail. He owns nothing and has no way to pay it all and needs to make payments can he do this once he serves his time?
