Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Divorce after 5 years?

I left my husband 5 years ago. I have tried several times to file for divorce but i just cannot afford it. I no longer have contact with him, in fact, he may have been able to get a divorce by claiming abandonment. There were no children involved and all property and debt has been either paid or repossessed. He lives in Mississippi and I have been in SC for the entire 5 years. Isn't there a cheap way to get this done?

If you cannot afford an attorney, you can either (a) attempt to represent yourself or (b) contact South Carolina Legal Services to see if you qualify for them to represent you for free.

If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.StevensFirm.com). I wish you the best of luck.
