Legal Question in Civil Litigation in South Carolina

I have been sent an offer to settle a asbestos claim by a lawer that he says the companyhas file for bankruptcy and is only required to pay only 20% of the claim and the lawer gets 40% of settlement plus expences, but does not say what expences he has, and I need to sign and send release papers back as soon as possible to recieve my money but all it says is the lawer gets 40% off the top and expences will be deducted from my share.my share is only about 2000.00 and I have no idea what is coming out of that.should I sign and return or wait and see what happens

You didn't mention whether or not you asked your lawyer how much the expenses are. I assume you have not. All you need to do is ask. I'm sure that he will tell you. He can't refuse to. If he gives you a hard time about it you have the right to tell him you will not settle unless he tells you how much they are. You will not have a problem if you assert yourself.
