Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Living with someone

A person has been living with me for about 10 years. I own my home and some property. The deed to the property is in my name. I had this before he moved with me. Does he have any legal right to anything if he decides to leave? Can he get part of my property.

Re: Living with someone

I assume you are not married. Tennessee does not have a common law marrigae. However, Tennessee will acknowledge a common law marriage if valid from another common law marriage state.

If you have resided in Tennessee for the past 10 years, he is not entitled to the house. He could be entitled to improvements he made to the house, however, you could counter this was his rent.
