What is the time limit on child abandonment?

I need to know how long the parents have to be gone before it will be considered child abandonment on a 3 month old baby girl.She is my niece.please give me feed back on any answers [email protected]

"Abandonment" is not really a term with a clear and unifor definition in all situations and for all purposes. If the parents have no contact with the child for four months or more or fail to pay support for that period, it constitutes "abandonment" under the adoption statutes in TN and would allow adoption. Under dependency and neglect it could be as little as 15 minutes, thereby allowing the state to take custody. Under TN criminal law it might be as little as 30 seconds in the right circumstances.
