Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Tennessee

possible excess damages

My son had a car accident- fault is undetermined but I anticipate at least partial fault- injuries are excessive to other vehicles passenger and may exceed my liability limits- my question is what happens if damages are awarded against me if I don't have the funds to pay the damages- is there a process to pay over a period of time, or how would that work

Re: possible excess damages

You should immediately contact your insurance company and advise them of the accident. The adjuster will review the accident with you and advise you further on where he or she believes the most fault lies. If a lawsuit is brought against you, the policy limits may be tendered in order to satisfy the claim. You have not specified what type of damages are involved or the policy limits on your policy so no further observation can be made.
