Legal Question in Product Liability in Tennessee

Single vehicle accident
My wife was involved in a single vehicle accident in Tennessee. We were enroute from Ft Knox KY to Ft Polk LA. My wife is adamant that something occured in the area of the left front wheel which caused the steering wheel to react violently and suddenly. I witnessed the accident and am quite certain that it was caused by a mechanical defect or failure. Our insurance company has made the assumption that the accident was caused by my wife hitting road debris. This is absurd for the simple reason I was traveling about 100 feet in front of her in my car. If there had been road debris large enough to create damage which caused the vehicle to react the way it did, I would have seen it or hit it first. We have repeatedly requested that our insurance company investigate the vehicle for possible defect which resulted in the accident, but they refuse to do so. . I attempted to secure legal assistance from an attorney locally, but he informed me I must seek legal services in the state in which the accident occured (TN) or the state in which the vehicle was purchased (KY). Where can I find an attorney/investigator to look at the vehicle to determine what happened and shouldnt my insurance company be liable for this.
