Legal Question in Business Law in Texas

Attorney Dropping case

My atty dropped my case 2 weeks before trial. I was sued by a client frivalously because he had a 100K Debt. His Daughter in law was an attorney and was free to him. I found out during the case that we had not done anything wrong and that he had actually frauded me so my attorney counter sued. I had wanted to settle at the begining but my atty said I shouldnt have to pay him anything. In the mean time I racked up a 170k. atty bill because she said she had a good case and the atty bills would be paid.It was my corporation sued not personal. As soon as my atty found that he had no money and about 100k in irs debt and other debts it was 2 wks before trial and she said she was dropping the case. I had already paid her 50k of the 170k. The other attys found out she was dropping me and then wanted to settle at 15k. which was what at the begining I had wanted to settle for so I didnt have to go through all of this. I had to pay them because what was I going to do without an attorney 2 wks before the court date. Then she made me sign a personal commitment for the fees not the corp or she wldnt talk to them for me. I talked with other attys and they said her bill was over what it should have been for not going to trial. Blackmail?

Re: Attorney Dropping case

I'm not so sure it's blackmail, but it may be conduct that you want to report to the State Bar Grievance Committee in your area.
