Legal Question in Technology Law in Texas

installation of privacy violating software without my consent

Last week I discovered I had the spyware program Savenow installed on my computer (by WhenU.com). I have never approved of the installation of this spyware and it was installed withough my knowledge. Not only is the pop-up advertising annoying, but it has consisted of pornographic images as well. This is a concern as I have a young child.

I cannot delete, or otherwise remove this program and cannot find instructions on how to remove it on the companies website.

Can this company legaly install this program without my consent and knowledge? Can they legaly send pornographic images without confirming the age of the person forced to view it? If they can not legaly do this, can they be held liabel?

Chances are that you HAVE authorized it unknowingly by loading some other program with which it was bundled or by clicking on an acceptance of Terms and Conditions which included permission to install this junk. There are a number of programs to wipe spyware from your computer. I recommend Spybot - Search & Destroy, which is freeware and is available at http://security.kolla.de/
