Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Credit Card Debt

I was contacted today about a debt that I have. The people that conacted me told me that they would submit a warrant for my arrest here in my county to get the money. They told me that I would have to pay lawyers fees when they took my to court to get the money. He also told me that I would be able to settle for 1300. I told him that I couldnt get that much by friday and then he told me to get 1000. To me it sounds like he was just trying to get something out of me. I honestly would make payments if I had been contacted about it. Like I told him I was just recently being contacted about this debt as of the middle of february. Im only 21 years old and I dont know what to do and I dont want to be put in a situation that can be rectified in a different manner. Please help me!!!

Re: Credit Card Debt

cLASSIC unfair debt collection practice...they can only sue and get a judgment..but you need PROOF of what the collector said...tape record them..or ask for their demand in writing..do not talk to them further

Re: Credit Card Debt

Based on what you have written, this appears to be abuse of debt collection practices. There are specific laws, both federal and state, which govern debt collectors actions and dealings. Additionally, debt collectors CAN NOT issue warrants for your arrest! You should go discuss your case with a law firm and make sure that you take any and all documents that you have regarding this debt. If my law firm can assist you with this legal issue or any other legal matter, please contact my legal assistant Jennifer ([email protected]).
