Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Using Credit Card Without Permission

My mother in law let me use her credit card a couple of years ago. SInce then I have been making the payments, but I have also made charges that she did not know about. I was discussing this with my head doctor and she told me this fraud and I need to find an attorney to deal with this matter. I have not spoken to my mother in law about this yet.

I do not have the credit to get it transferred into my name. I am finishing up my bachelors degree in 4 months and know that a felony will prevent me from ever getting a good job. I am confused and really do not know what to do. I want to call the credit card company and let them know what I have done, but my wife disagrees with this move. I am more than willing to pay off the debt. I just need some guidance to make the right decisions. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Using Credit Card Without Permission

DO NOT CALL CREDIT CARD COMPANY..they only want their money and they know many people use credit cards which are in other people's names..If you have the card, it will be presumed you had authority to use it and that is NOT fraud. But as a family matter, why not quit using the card, and get a different card..perhaps a debit card which really limits power to spend to what you have..

Apparently the bill comes to you and your wife and your mother in law does not get the bill??if she does, why doesn't she know what it was used for.
