Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Sued over ex-spose debt

I have been divorced since early 2000.In 1997 I co-signed with my ex for a bussiness loan. Without my knowlege he renewed his loan with his brother co-signing in 1999, once again he renewed the loan in 2000 with his sister co-signing for his loan this time. The issue is that he defaulted on his loan and I am being sued along with his family over this now in 2005. I got served papers by the sheriff and I have about 1 more week to answer. I thought that after he renewed the loan the first time with out my signature that I wouldn't have nothing to do with it since a new contract with new signatures was being made. I would like to know what are my rights regarding this issue and what can I do. Thank you.

Right now you have the right to file a response to the lawsuit filed by the creditor. If you can't do that by yourself, a good attorney should be able to this economically for you.
