Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

In 2010 went to jail for 6 months in Austin, Texas over less than $3000 in back child support. Since 2012 I payed what I owed, plus another $75 per month. I was laid off about a year ago and just found work again so my paymenys were here and there, but i paid what I could. I've got court in a month and a VERY vindictive ex. I plan to put more than 80℅ of my checks (on top of twice the amount I owe for this month) towards back pay until my court date. Should I just spend some of that money on a lawyer instead? If I have the same judge as last time (Judge Judy's twin) it is VERY likely she won't even hear me out. Texas is NOT fair in these situations PLEASE help me!!! I NEED some helpful input.

If you cannot afford an attorney, the court should appoint one for you. If you can afford an attorney, I would hire one.
