Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

14 yr. old kicked out

My 14 yr old son was kicked out by his father who has custody, from what my ex mother in law told me this has been building up for a while. He told him to get out and even changed the locks, I can't afford an attorney to modify custody, my son (who want to be an attorney) is now living with me. which is the best thing that could of happened. My ex can't seem to hold down a job and his mother has been paying his house payment, the gas has been shut off for about 6 months so there is no hot water and my son has to go somewhere else to shower. I had also went to pick my son up one night and had been pulled over for failure to signal (I always use my blinkers) right after I left my ex's, after the cop asked my son his address he apparently had nothing else to say to me, he questioned my son about all the traffic that goes on over at my ex's. then told me to drive carefully. My ex had been arrested for poss. of marijuana and poss. of brass knuckles, I think he got community service & probation. obviously that is not the enviroment my son needs to be in. Sorry back to my question my son would like to know if he can be the one to change custody and if the court would apoint him an attorney to do so? And how to go about doing so?

Your local county bar association might have a program to assist you in this matter. See if you can speak with the District Clerk (not a deputy) or perhaps the Judge's Court Coordinator. Some times they will help. Sometimes they won't. Contact the Texas State Bar Association for other programs. Good Luck
