Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

my brother is a schzophrinc due to drugs. We have gotten on medication but it doesn't seem to work. He does nothing for himself and smokes one after another. He feels that when he's outof smokes,--name removed--Should buy more. He lays in bed and waches tv and eats constently. We got him on Food Stamps and found him an apartment.he refuses to clean shower, or wash clothes. He wears the same clothes for 3 weeks. He's self centered and lazy and demanding. We can't do all this for him anymore. We don't know what to do we tok out his phone because he was calling atleast 10 times a day wanting cigaretts or food while he lounges

can you adviseus what to do

If he is mentally incompetent, you can get a guardianship over him.

Unless you move him somewhere to live and he stays there, a guardianship is not going to magically fix all the problems you are having.

I'd also check with some mental health experts in your area and look into family counseling for the family members to relieve stress.

You can also call Adult Protective Services. I don't know if they can help you.

I agree with Mr. Grissom and Ms. Brochstein.

Having lived closely with a similar situation, you have to do what you know is your best effort, and if it doesn't work, walk away.

Make all of the phone calls and invoke all of the court services and mental health services that will force him (to whatever extent possible) to help and medication. If he is on food stamps, then he is entitled to mental health services.

Then walk away. Protect yourself and protect your family. He needs help, and is too sick to understand he needs help. Don't sacrifice your family in the process.
