Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

The girlfriend, the car, and the angry mother

The car my girlfriend currently drives is her mother's old one. When mom got her new one she told my girlfriend if she took over the payments and got insurance on it, the old car was hers.

Well they recently got into an arguement over something silly, so my future mother-in-law said that she is taking the car back, and if we don't return it by this weekend then she is calling the police and reporting it stolen. And not just that, she wants my girlfriend to KEEP making payments on it or repair the damage done to the car out of pocket that she did to it a few months back. She had the car for six months and scraped the driver side door one day. At the time her and her mother decided not to get their insurance involved.

So my question. After a year of paying on this car, does her mother have the right to take it back or report it stolen if we take too long with delivery? And is my girlfriend liable for that minor damage on the door even though the two of them decided at the time to not get their insurance involved? Thanks for the help.

Re: The girlfriend, the car, and the angry mother

The simple answer is for your girlfriend to go to the police station right now and make a report on this story. That way if mama makes a stolen vehicle report, it will be a false report; and she will go to jail. That way there won't be any more trouble 'til mama gets out of jail. Good Luck.
