Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

when my husband filled for a divorce I was not able to pay for a lawyer. I was a homemaker with no income. I was not aware that I could get 1/2 of his retirement from when we were married. Can I go back and modify the decree? we were married 20 years.

A divorce decree is a judgment from a district Court. It is appealable within 30 days after it's signed. For a period of four years after it's signed, you can file a bill of review, but it will be granted only if certain very special facts are present.

It is very unlikely that you could go back and reopen the case. You should have figured out a way to get a lawyer during the divorce.
